Voneus Broadband keeps cinema projector running in Cuddington

When movies and radio are much, much more than a hobby, it’s essential to have an internet connection that is fast and reliable enough to get the job done.

And for Chris Long, from Cuddington in Buckinghamshire, full fibre broadband from Voneus has been game changing for him, and for the village.

Chris is a member of The Village Picture House (VPH) team that each week between September and July screens movies at The Bernard Hall, often to a capacity audience. Using a 4k ultra high definition system with full surround sound, the giant 16 foot screen also shows live and encore presentations from the National Theatre.

He said: “I needed ultrafast broadband to my home so that I could download trailers and other files for the VPH, so was delighted when Voneus came to the village.

“My 300Mbps upload and download is almost 10 times faster than the speeds I was getting before.

“And thanks to Voneus, we have a 100Mbps fibre connection at The Bernard Hall too, which going forward is likely to be really important. The way we source films is moving away from physical blu-ray discs towards streaming in high definition with multi channels, so good broadband will be absolutely vital.”

Voneus installed full fibre broadband to the hall in May 2022, and continues to sponsor the cinema’s monthly promotional flyers.

In this year’s village hall annual report, Rob Morris-Jones, chairman of The Bernard Hall management committee said of the VPH: “We have a superb setup that is significantly better than other local community cinemas, with a huge screen, ten loudspeakers for full surround sound and an ultra-high definition projector.”

Chris’s other passion is radio, and he is Head of Output at Red Kite Radio, the community radio station for Thame, Haddenham and the surrounding villages. His main role is scheduling programmes and adding new songs to the ever growing playlist. Chris said: “As part of my role at Red Kite Radio I frequently need to upload or download large audio files and connect to our studio computers from home. Having fast, reliable broadband makes this so much easier.”
